She talk about college all the time but in reality she is not willing to make sacrifices for it. Forget about the apartment, move out of the hood to get into the best college possible and take a lucrative career. I made the sacrifice to move continents for college, I took out loans and just grinded.

Funny how they call it homeless when in hindsight they're either addicts or recovering addict, homelessness seem to be a cover up title....

I remember the First American Girl doll catalog. Dad came out of the post office and had the catalog in his hand and he handed it to mom and she gave it to me and I saw pictures of Dolls dressed in old fashioned clothes. I loved it and I wanted a doll too. I kept the catalog for a whole year And one year later I got a new catalog in the mail there was a different doll on the cover with blonde hair and brown eyes wearing a wetsuit Snorkel and has a Boogie board. I knew that was the doll I wanted. On Christmas morning I hoped a big box from Santa and In it was a blue box with polka dots and inside was my Kailey doll. Then from then on started collocting American Girl dolls and I still get the catalogs in our p.o.box. Now my 2 little nieces have a bitty baby doll. I'm waiting for the day that their both old enough to have an American Girl doll of their own. Their almost 2 years and almost 4 year's old. I'll get them a wellie wisher when their ready.

I know great grandma would usually go to black church (and sit quietly in back which from all the stories I know about her was an incredible display of self control) because she thought the white church was terribly somber and boring

Her children are very well behaved. Sounds like Mom's parents didn't prepare her properly for adulthood. My 16 yo grandson has a job & in high school with good grades. Many parents fail to teach them about the real world.

Many variables contribute to our suffering. We saw the consequences but did not necessarily see all the actions that led to this. As a society, we can focus more on the people in our country, but resources come from somewhere....there is no free lunch. I watch these documentaries to remember that someone is always worse off and to be grateful for my life and my options. These things keep me grounded. Decision-making contributes to outcomes, but luck and timing are the majority of the equation. I pray for her resilience and salute her for kicking her drug addiction; that's no small feat.

The biggest mystery to me being a Chicagoan for 71 years is why do people keep voting for democrats? I know one thing for sure. The voter roles are not up-to-date. My parents were on the voter rules for three years after they died now I can understand why they were voting Democrat for the last three years.

“Chicago Hotdog” ok no ketchup in that, but not everyone likes all that garbage on a hotdog. Many, many people in Chicago put ketchup on their hotdog, it’s completely normal. I prefer ketchup and mustard only.
